Why Do You Need To Do Computer Backups?

Do you backup your computer data? Do you think about doing it but somehow never get round to it? And if you do backups when was the last time you did one?

Unfortunately it’s only when things go wrong that you’ll realise the importance of doing regular backups. Even if nothing major happens and you’ve only accidentally deleted a file at some point and then emptied your recycle bin, you’ll still be glad you did regular backups. If you look at your latest backup you might find it there and if not keep working back through your backups and the chances are it will still be there.

If you haven’t done any backups then your only real option is to use data file recovery software to try and locate the missing data. Instead of a quick look through your backup files now you’re having to install new software and start scanning.

If the scenario is much worse and your computer’s crashed and corrupted your data you could be looking at losing everything. You could use a company to try and restore your data if the data recovery software draws a blank but it will cost you quite a bit of money and they may not be able to retrieve all your data.

So why not get into the habit of doing backups and avoid the need for computer file recovery. To get started you’ll need an external hard disk along with some software like Acronis True Image.

On the first run of the backup software it can take a long time especially if you’ve got a lot of stuff on your computer. After you’ve done the initial backup you can choose to do incremental backups from then on to save time.

Try and do a computer backup once a month at least. If you do a lot of work then do it every week and perhaps have the directory you’re working in backed up every day. Luckily the software can do this all automatically freeing you from the problem of trying to remember to do it on a regular basis.

A good tip is to run your virus software before you do your backup so that you know that the resulting stored data is clean.
