How to build a website with WordPress
For years I considered WordPress to be a great program for building blogs. I never though it could be used for building regular websites. For regular websites, you use HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and/or CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). Correct? Not necessarily. After doing some research, I realized that WordPress is a wonderful platform to build great looking websites fast, easy and cheap!
Why should you use blog software to build a website? Well, I can think of three good reasons:
- Ease of Use – WordPress is one of the easiest and most user friendly programs available today. You don’t need specialized knowledge, such as HTML or CSS, to build a website with WordPress.
- Built-in Tools – All the tools you require to build your website are included with the software. Tools such as page editor, SEO, embedded video and audio, e-commerce, and an incredible array of tools available via FREE plug-ins make this program a very robust one.
- Search Engine Friendliness – Search engines love blogs due to the nature of the “fresh” information they provide. With all the available plugins for SEO, you can optimize your website without any knowledge of SEO.
If your knowledge of HTML/CSS is partial, or if you are annoyed with having to spend endless hours lining up text and pictures, you may want to consider using WordPress for building your next website.
You can have a WordPress website installed, optimized and running in about a day. Yes, a day. And I am not talking about a one page site, I am talking about a 10 page website.
In addition to the ease of installation and setup, you can add a great deal of functionality to your website through the use of plugins. Plugins are small pieces of code (most of them free) that add specific functionality to your website. Functionality such as SEO optimization, form creation, automatic backup of the website, automatic updates, e-commerce (shopping carts for products and services), etc. The list is endless.
A blog can be of great help to increase a website’s ranking. When you create a website using WordPress, you have your blog “built-in.” All you have to do is include a tab on your website and you go. Start adding good and relevant content to your blog, and with the help of pinging and SEO plugins, you will have your site indexed and ranking in very little time.
